MIDAS/Set is one
of the MIDAS structural engineering programs and named after
the initials of "Structural Engineer's Tools". It
is a collection of handy structural component design tools,
which are easy to use and speeds up the day-to-day design
process.

1. |
Variety of functionality
offered to readily carry out structural design in engineering
practice
- Concurrent
view of input and output windows on the same screen - extremely
versatile to change input values while viewing the design
results in the output window simultaneously
- Help functions (Tool tips) provided
to enable even a novice to use the design tools without
committing a mistake
- Instant input checking capability
of alerting the user when an input value falls beyond the
permitted range by highlighting the input value red in the
entry field
- Various Help windows and supplementary
input windows provided for the convenience of data entry
tasks
- Continuity of work flow maintained
by setting the previous work environment when the program
is initiated
- Automatic design function, which
finds optimum member sizes
- For irregular column design, material nonlinearity of rebars and concrete can be reflected.
2. |
Accurate calculation results |
- Fully compliant structural design
to the current design standards (ACI318-02/95, BS8110 & AISC-ASD98)
- Accurate results produced on the
basis of optimum algorithms
- Various design Options provided to
closely reflect the environments of construction and serviceability
3. |
High quality output |
- Design results provided in high quality
graphic formats
- Easy recognition of improper design
results - The program highlights design results red when
the calculated values fall beyond the permitted ranges
- Design results saved in a graphical
format, which can be opened in an editor such as MS Word
- The logo and output format of design
results controlled by the user

RC Column Design Program
The module designs rectangular and circular
reinforced concrete columns subject to axial forces and bi-axial
moments. It analyses 3-dimensional axial-moment interaction
from which column capacity is calculated.
| |
| |
RC Beam Design Program
The module designs rectangular and T beams
subject to bending moment, shear force and torsional moment.
It carries out optimum design and reinforcement check by satisfying
the compatibility of stress-strain of concrete and reinforcing
steel.
| |
| |
RC Irregular Column Design Program
The module designs an irregularly shaped
column subject to axial force and bi-axial moments. It provides
a CAD modeler, which allows easy creation of section composition.
It generates a 3-dimensional PM interaction diagram, which enables
the user to readily check the capacity of the column section.
| |
| |
Combined Footing Design Program
The module designs a combined footing
for two columns. It automatically designs the width and thickness
of a footing with a given length.
| |
| |
Basement Wall Design Program
The module designs a section of a building
basement wall subject to soil and ground water pressure. It
computes moments and shear forces using the method of moment
coefficients of plate formulas. The unbalanced moments are redistributed
by the stiffness of equivalent indeterminate beams.
| |
| |
Spread Footing Design Program
The module designs spread footings with
eccentrically located columns as well as piled footings using
the database contained in the program.
| |
| |
Basement Buttress Design Program
The module designs basement buttresses
subject to soil and ground water pressure. It automatically
calculates the lateral pressure, shear forces, moments, etc.
acting on the buttresses.
| |
| |
Composite Beam
The module designs composite beams, which
automatically checks design stresses, deflections, required
shear studs, floor vibration, etc.
| |
| |
Cantilevered Retaining Wall Design Program
The module designs various types of cantilevered
retaining walls. It checks overturning, sliding and soil bearing
pressure resulting from lateral pressure and automatically calculates
lateral pressure, shear forces, moments, required reinforcement,
etc.
| |
| |
RC Shear Wall
The module designs shear walls subject
to axial forces, shear forces and bending moments. Multiple
member forces may be specified. It also designs slender columns
and checks for weak axis moments.
